Meet David Brown. Hyne Cadet.

Our national Cadet Program is all about identifying and training the next generation of Hyne Managers. Its graduates include current company leaders Paul Ryan and, our very own Peter Hyne whose son Sam, is also a Cadet.

The program helps pass on our company’s six generations of timber knowledge.

Currently acting as the Tumbarumba Mill Despatch Manager, David was born in Tumbarumba and started work at our mill here in 2015.

His cadetship will see him rotated through Hyne operations nationally, from Tumbarumba, to our new $20 million Glulam plant in Maryborough Queensland.

“This has been a great opportunity for me. I’m getting experience in frontline leadership roles including people and project management. It’s been a valuable learning experience.” David said.

David’s training isn’t all on the job. His Bachelor of Commerce at USQ, with majors in leadership and management and information technology management, keeps him busy after hours.

But, how did it all begin? David struck up a friendship with our National Training Coordinator. “We were chatting about Hyne supporting me in study. And, I was encouraged to apply.” He said. “He was a great mentor.”

The future is bright for this father of two who coaches under 8’s rugby league juniors in the Tumba Batlow Minor League.

With his own 12-year old and a six-month old, David loves Tumbarumba’s family focus. He tells a story about how his mum and dad are very well known in town, and that once after school his son, Ryan, wasn’t “the most safety conscious” when it came to crossing the road. “That night, mum got two phone calls from concerned parties” he said.

With over 600 employees and national operations, David’s got lots of room to grow with his family here at Hyne.
