Dunga Derby Rally Visits Tuan Mill

It was no ordinary run of the mill at Hyne Timber this morning as 50 Dunga Derby cars carrying 200 participants convoyed their way through the Tuan site near Maryborough.

The rally commenced at the Hervey Bay RSL before making its way to the Tuan Mill as an acknowledgement to Hyne Timber as the major sponsor. It will continue on into the Tuan Forest and beyond as part of a four day fundraising event.

The Tuan Mill shut down its operations for the duration of the unique visit to enable employees the opportunity to enjoy the rally while showing their support.

Site Manager, Rob Emms said the visit was very much welcomed,

“Rally for a Cause and the Dunga Derby are growing year on year because of the great work they are doing for our community.

“To have the whole rally convoy through the Mill was a fun way for our employees to also get involved and support the participants with this worthy cause.

“50 cars and 200 participants presented a logistical issue but a good problem to have.

“While the rally is fun and lively to say the least, the funds raised assist families facing cruel challenges such as children bravely fighting cancer.

“We are proud to be a part of this charity as the major sponsor and anything further we can do to assist, we are happy to support.” Mr Emms said.

The charity rally is the major, annual fundraising event for Rally for a Cause, supporting Fraser Coast families and individuals who have been affected by a life limiting medical condition or personal tragedy.

Now in its fourth year, the charity has raised over $540,000, assisting over 40 recipients.

It was started by a group of friends who rallied to support the Christensen family in Hervey Bay following their son Cooper’s diagnosis of brain cancer. Sadly, Cooper Eli Christensen passed away at the age of just six. In his memory, Cooper’s Walk was created, raising money for Brain Cancer Research. To keep up to date on the walk information, you can follow ‘Cooper’s Journey’ on Facebook.

The Dunga Derby 2018 homecoming will take place on Sunday 5th August along the Hervey Bay Esplanade before reaching the Hervey Bay Seafront Oval at approximately 3pm.
