Spotlight on the inaugural SmartTimber Awards
A Masters of Architecture student from the University of Queensland has received Timber Queensland's newly-minted SmartTimber Awards, announced in April.
Revealed at Timber Queensland's
Doing Timber Business in Queensland: Room to Grow
conference held in Brisbane, Peter Greely took home the Smart Timber Award for his project 'Heartwood', an investigation into engineered timber, its versatility as a building product and its environmental credentials across multiple building typologies.
"The project is an insightful solution that advocates and promotes the possibilities of engineered timber to developers, industry and most importantly the general public," said the jury.
Two commendations were also awarded – the first to Fatemeh Raouf and the UQ Masters of Architecture Team for their 'Generative Structure' project, and the second to PhD student, Mahyar Masael, for his study on the 'Feasibility of improving the moment resistance performance of beam-column timber connection in mass timber buildings'.
Sponsored by Hyne Timber and intended as celebration of up-and-coming young architects and engineers, the Timber Queensland Smart Timber Awards seek out the best from engineering and architecture programs throughout the state.
