T3 Green Plus is safe and guaranteed for up to 25 years when installed and maintained correctly. To ensure you maximise the life of your structure and comply with the Product Guarantee and Australian Standards, you should follow the tips below.
Applications
T3 Green Plus has been specifically developed for indoor and outdoor, above ground applications in Australia. T3 Green Plus can be used for decking and structural applications including wall framing, decking structures, bearers, joists, rafters, battens and beams.

Outdoor Installation

All timber used outdoors should be equalised with the environmental moisture content (EMC) prior to use, to avoid any unnecessary reshaping of the boards.

Freshly treated or moisture exposed timber is used, due allowance should be made for expansion and contraction of the boards. Note that wet T3 Green Plus boards will return to their specified size within 2 - 3 weeks of dry weather.

Any T3 Green Plus product installed in weather exposed situations must be sealed with a suitable timber paint or stain coating, such as Cabot's Timbercolour, Intergrain NaturalStain or a suitable equivalent, to maintain optimum serviceability, appearance and dimensional stability. All surfaces must be adequately coated to ensure the timber is protected from the elements.

Ensure T3 Green Plus is clean and dry before applying any coating products, and that that the coating manufacturers' instructions are followed carefully. Coatings must be maintained as per the instructions of the coating manufacturer - particularly when subject to harsh environmental conditions.

Note: Failure to apply and maintain a suitable coating product may void the T3 Green Plus warranty.

T3 Green Plus must not be re-sawn or re-sized after treatment except for cutting to length or notching as required for fitting and joining. These processes may reduce the protection afforded by the treatment and may void the guarantee.

Where the timber is cut, notched, drilled or rebated - the exposed areas must be resealed with a suitable treatment preservative product such as Tanalised® Enseal Clear, Tanalised® Ecoseal, Protim® Solignum® XJ Clear or an equivalent to ensure that an integral treatment envelope is maintained.

Indoor Installation

T3 Green Plus is to be installed, used and maintained in accordance with the building practice requirements of AS1684 “Residential timber-framed construction.” T3 Green Plus termite resistance is dependent upon the integrity of the treatment envelope. Research has shown that a trimmed end, abutting a treated surface, does not adversely affect the termite resistance of the timber. Similarly, minor notching, trenching and drilling of holes in T3 Green Plus, in accordance with the requirements of AS1684.2 Clause 6.2.1.4 is considered acceptable by termite experts.

However, a number of practical building situations can arise, during construction, which may either necessitate the removal of the envelope treatment from T3 Green Plus or require the use of termite susceptible timber with no envelope treatment. This may occur in the following situations:

  1. Recessing of metal bracing products
  2. Rebates to accommodate showers or baths
  3. Inclusion of non-termite resistant timber members
  4. Stud straightening by planing of stud mid-sections
  5. Inadvertent damage to members

Where the exposed surface area of termite susceptible timber exceeds the cross-sectional area of the member concerned, then additional termite protection is required to achieve the performance requirements of the NCC relating to termite action. Where replacement of the affected timber member is not practical or possible then the following acceptable methods for protecting termite susceptible timber are required:

1. The installation of a termite barrier system
2. The in-situ preservative treatment of any termite susceptible timber

Suitable brush-on or spray-on preservative treatments for termite susceptible timber are listed below:

  1. Protim® Solignum® XJ Clear
  2. Tanalised® Enseal Clear or Ecoseal

These products contain insecticides, which with the correct application will provide termite protection to any exposed termite susceptible timber.
